Press Policy

CUP advises authors and prospective contributors to refrain from actively seeking media attention for manuscripts under consideration in CUP journals. Interaction with the media about the articles accepted should not be done until the official date of publication has been set, and ideally, within a week before publication.

CUP recognizes the importance of open scientific discussion and does not intend to restrict academic exchange. Authors and researchers are encouraged to communicate through academic forums, conferences, preprint archives, and scholarly online platforms. Authors may also provide clarification, context, or explanation in response to media questions about work that has been presented as a preprint or at a conference. In these instances, authors must make it obvious that the research has not undergone peer review yet, that the results are tentative, and that the interpretations might change. Such interactions will not affect editorial assessment in a negative manner. Lastly, everyone involved in the publication process should maintain confidentiality regarding peer review and editorial discussions.
