Digital Archiving Policy

Chitkara University Publications (CUP) acknowledge digital preservation as a long-term scholarly publishing responsibility. All publications under CUP journals are kept systematically in a structured long-term Preservation and Archiving (LTPA) model that is geared towards ensuring the long-term preservation of the scholarly record.

The archiving and indexing are components of the publication lifecycle. Published works are always deposited into known archiving systems and bibliographical services to increase the discoverability, accessibility, and sustainability of academic material.
Principles of Digital Archiving

Protection of Intellectual Property: CUP ensures the protection of intellectual property rights of authors and the responsible and legal access to digital materials. Every preservation and access method is done as per the relevant copyright policies and author agreements.
Long-Term Accessibility:The main aim of the digital preservation strategies is to ensure continuous access to scholarly publications by researchers, institutions, and the general academic fraternity.

Authenticity and Integrity:The preservation systems are designed in a way that preserves the integrity of the content held in the archives. There are mechanisms put in place to ensure publications are not modified, lost, or concealed.

Metadata Harvesting and Archiving:In an effort to support permanence and interoperability, metadata harvesting and content preservation are supported through

  • Journal Website Archiving: All the articles published are safely stored and preserved on the official journal websites to be available at all times.
  • DSpace Repository: CUP has adopted the DSpace institutional repository platform, which is an open-source system, in order to support systematic preservation and effective retrieval of various types of digital scholarly materials.
  • Local Archive: CUP maintains a local state-of-the-art facility to store a complete, accurate digital version of CUP journals via AWS. The current format standards are XML and PDF, with most files being retained in both formats.
  • Continued Archival Growth: There is a strategic push to partner with other digital preservation services and archiving agencies to give the preservation ecosystem greater strength and redundancy.

By providing a well-organized and proactive archiving system, CUP guarantees the reputation, sustainability, and timeless availability of the academic publications it publishes, thereby assuring authors, librarians, and the global research community in general.
